Building Next-Gen Employee-Centric Intranets
Designing the System of Action
In today's fast-paced and increasingly digital world, organizations must strive to provide their employees with an engaging and seamless digital workplace experience. Traditional intranets, like SharePoint, often fall short in meeting this objective, offering limited personalization and a less than intuitive user experience.
I have had the privilege of leading user experience design and strategy for next-gen intranets on ServiceNow. This new breed of intranet goes beyond merely connecting employees – it empowers them to take action and collaborate, while providing personalized experiences that resonate with their unique needs.

USER EXPERIENCE FLOWS, PROGRAM SETUP AND BUSINESS CASE STRATEGY AND JOBS TO BE DONE
I employed industry-leading design strategies to create next-gen intranets on ServiceNow, with a focus on gamification, personalization, and role-based recommendations.
Putting the User First
One of the core tenets of our design strategy is to put the employee at the center of the intranet experience. One method to achieve this is to integrate gamification elements that encourage users to interact with the platform, complete tasks, and collaborate with others. By rewarding employees with points, badges, or other incentives, we've fostered a sense of friendly competition and boosted employee engagement. This approach not only helps to increase productivity but also strengthens the overall corporate culture and sense of community within the organization.

Tailoring the Intranet to Each User
We can customize the intranet based on an employee's job role, location, access level, and more. This enables us to present users with relevant and timely information, tools, and resources, streamlining their workflows and reducing the time spent searching for necessary assets.

INTRANET'S PERSONALIZED BASED UPONTHE ROLE AND USER PERSONA. ON THE LEFT, EMPLOYEE. ON THE RIGHT, MANAGER’S VIEW AND EMPLOYEE VIEW.
Connecting Users to the Right Content and People
Understanding that different employees have varying needs and responsibilities, intranet designs incorporate role-based recommendations. Using advanced algorithms, I utilized an employee's job role, location, and access level to recommend content, tools, and connections that are most relevant and beneficial to them.

ON THE LEFT: PERSONALIZED HOMEPAGE WITH ACTIONS, NEWS, GROUPOS AND MORE. ON THE RIGHT, A ONBOARIDNG EXPERIENCE TO THE INTRANET
Intranets of Tomorrow.... Biggest Barrier to Success
No matter the technology stack that we use, the biggest barrier to the success of replacing an intranet is the lack of governance and the desire to change. So many customers and clients I have worked with the over the years understood the value and opportunity of putting the employee at the center of their needs.
However, many stakeholders feel entitled or entrenched into the platforms they have chosen of the years, while building technical debt that probhits them from true transformation.
In end, all of these successful transformation programs started with Governance.
